Our basic confinement herbal tea is well-loved by many moms for its rich taste. Formulated with input from experienced TCM physicians, it contains a nourishing blend of herbs such as red dates (红枣), south dates (南枣), codonopsis (党参), dried longans (桂圆) and wolfberries (枸杞) to replenish Qi and blood, and support postpartum recovery. From a TCM perspective, having a good flow of Qi and blood circulation also helps stimulate milk supply for breastfeeding moms.

Suggested use:
Rinse herbs before use. Boil the herbs (excluding wolfberries) in 2 litres of water. Bring to a boil, then cover the pot and let it simmer over low heat for 1 hour. Add wolfberries in the last 5 minutes before serving.

Can you drink plain water during confinement?
Yes. It is important to stay hydrated, especially since new moms tend to sweat easily due to hormonal changes. This is particularly important if you are breastfeeding. However, it is advisable to consume warm water instead of cold.

Contrary to what some traditional confinement practices might advise, you should not completely replace water with red date tea. Instead, consider a daily intake of 1-1.5 liters of red date tea alongside 1.5-2 liters of water. This balanced approach helps reduce the chances of excessive internal heat build-up. 

Store in a cool and dry place, away from direct sunlight and heat. Best kept refrigerated.
